Final Fantasy VII Rebirth helped lift HD-game results
The Switch 2 and Xbox Series versions of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth were among the releases credited with helping Square Enix’s HD-game division. The Adventures of Elliot also contributed to the rise in sales and profit, while older catalog games continued to bring in revenue.
Square Enix’s MMO segment recorded year-over-year gains in both sales and profit as well. The announcement of the new Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Evercold, was identified as one of the main factors behind that performance, although Final Fantasy XIV‘s profit increased only slightly. Player numbers picked up during the same general period, while development spending on Evercold continued toward 2027.
Evercold’s planned systems
Square Enix has also discussed changes that go beyond a routine patch cycle, including revamped “evolved” jobs, a raid series aimed at midcore players, and a new seasonal structure for the tomestone system. Bastion, a tank job that uses two shields, is one example of the expansion’s new ideas.
Mobile and browser games added to the growth
Games on smart devices and PC browsers also performed better during the quarter. The free-to-play 3v3 team boss-battle arena Dissidia Duellum: Final Fantasy and the free-to-play action roguelite Dragon Quest Smash/Grow both supported that increase.
