BC.Game’s EWC Run Ends as TaZ Praises the Team’s Resilience

The coach said the new lineup still needs time to build chemistry under in-game leader Emil "Magisk" Reif.

BC.Game’s Esports World Cup run ended with a narrow loss to 100 Thieves, but coach Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas left the match focused on what the roster had done differently: it kept competing through the final rounds.

BC.Game’s chance to close the series in two maps slipped away after Jack “Gizmy” von Spreckelsen produced a 1v3. The team then conceded Anubis 11-13, ending its tournament run.

In a post-match interview with HLTV, TaZ described the result as another example of how narrow the margins can be in Counter-Strike.

“CS is a game of small margins,” he said. “Some rounds you lose an advantage, some you win in a disadvantage, so we can’t really talk much about it, we just need to go back and get better.”

TaZ sees a different BC.Game

For TaZ, the team’s response after losing control of the match was more meaningful than the elimination itself. He called the roster’s willingness to stay in the fight a “huge change” from the BC.Game lineup seen at the beginning of the year.

“I’m proud of the guys that they were fighting until the end,” TaZ said. “This is not something we were known for at the beginning of the year, and that’s definitely a huge change.”

A new lineup still has rough edges

BC.Game is still early in its current project, which includes a new in-game leader in Emil “Magisk” Reif and two new additions in Ayush “mzinho” Batbold and Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold. TaZ acknowledged that the team will continue to miss utility, forget tactics, and make the wrong call in certain situations while the lineup develops.

“There will be things we will miss, and this is something we tried to remind the whole team, that we won’t be perfect, we will be missing utility, we will be forgetting tactics, which happened,” he said.

The coach added that the roster should improve as it gains more practice in close games and advantage situations. The Esports World Cup was only the unit’s second LAN together, yet TaZ believed BC.Game showed “good CS” and gave the players something to build on for the future.

Part of that work involves bringing together players with very different approaches. TaZ said Sasha and Denis come from one style of Counter-Strike, while mzinho and Senzu come from another. The challenge is combining their freestyle creativity with a more structured system that leaves less room for improvisation.

“We will just work on it and get better,” TaZ said.

Counter-Strike 2

Counter-Strike 2 is a free-to-play multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed and published by Valve. Released in September 2023, it is the fifth main entry in the Counter-Strike series and serves as a direct replacement for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Steam. Two teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, compete in objective-based rounds across modes such as bomb defusal and hostage rescue. Built on the Source 2 engine, the game introduced volumetric smoke physics, revised weapon handling, and a new sub-tick server architecture. It inherited all cosmetic items from its predecessor and features both a map-specific Competitive mode and a numerically ranked Premier mode.
