World of Warcraft players are once again debating Blizzard’s push toward encounters that do not require addons after a Season 2 addon appeared to solve part of an encounter for the player. The addon, called Azta’rec Helper, is described as a tool for the fight’s memory-game mechanic.
User /u/RangyJiraffe raised the concern in a Reddit post, arguing that the addon goes beyond simply presenting information. The post links to a separate Azta’rec Helper demonstration focused on the memory puzzle.

The attached gameplay image shows the fight covered by several addon elements, including a large circular display that breaks down the memory puzzle. That is enough to show how much information the tool can place directly on the encounter, but it does not independently confirm the broader claim that the addon effectively plays the fight on its own.
Blizzard has previously discussed designing encounters around clearer in-game information instead of requiring players to install external tools. Addons can range from simple timers and reminders to systems that interpret encounter data and present an answer at the exact moment it is needed. The second type is where the line becomes harder to define.
A memory mechanic can still ask players to react, but a solver may reduce that task to following an instruction on the screen. That creates a very different experience from using an addon as a basic reminder, especially in content where recognizing patterns is meant to be part of the challenge.
The Reddit material does not establish whether Blizzard plans to restrict Azta’rec Helper or change the encounter. For now, the posts document a potentially powerful addon interaction rather than a confirmed policy change or an officially verified case of full automation.
