D&D World of Warcraft Will Bring Azeroth to Tabletop This November

The 256-page hardcover will add new species, subclasses, monsters, spells, factions, dungeons, magic items, and Azeroth character stat blocks.

Wizards of the Coast announced D&D World of Warcraft during the 2026 Dungeons & Dragons show at Gen Con. The tabletop crossover will let groups build adventures in Azeroth, with preorders opening on July 30, 2026, early access beginning on November 3, 2026, and the full retail release following on November 17.

The project will be the first Dungeons & Dragons release under the Universes Beyond label. Wizards of the Coast borrowed that name from Magic: The Gathering, where it identifies products built around outside fictional worlds.

The announcement follows an earlier brief Roll20 listing that pointed toward a World of Warcraft-themed D&D product. That early listing was not clear about the format, but the reveal has now confirmed a package built around a sourcebook and tabletop play materials. The earlier Roll20 listing had also appeared ahead of Gen Con 2026.

What D&D World of Warcraft will include

The main Gameplay Expansion sourcebook will be a 256-page hardcover. It will add 11 species, including World of Warcraft races that only have a cosmetic role in the MMO. The book will also introduce six new subclasses, including the Death Knight, alongside three updated subclasses.

Alongside those player options, the book will include more than 50 monsters, over 60 spells, 23 factions, and 26 magic items, including artifacts. These additional details were reported by PC Gamer.

Players will be able to use those options across several Azeroth locations. The book will feature seven dungeons based on World of Warcraft raids, while major characters such as Arthas the Lich King and Jaina Proudmoore will receive stat blocks for tabletop encounters. It will also contain stat blocks for other popular characters from across Azeroth.

Orgrimmar buildings and citizens in a World of Warcraft setting

The release package will also contain a Dungeon Master screen and a map pack with tokens and battlemaps. That gives groups more than setting lore to work with when they begin building campaigns in Azeroth.

This will not be the first time Warcraft has appeared in a D&D-related product. Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game, later renamed World of Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game, used the 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules in the early 2000s.

Why the Universes Beyond name matters

The label may sound familiar to Magic: The Gathering players, but its arrival in Dungeons & Dragons carries a different set of considerations. Magic crossovers can appear in the same game because many Universes Beyond sets are legal in most formats. D&D campaigns are more self-contained, so a group can choose whether Azeroth belongs in its setting.

That means Arthas will not suddenly appear in Baldur’s Gate unless a Dungeon Master decides to bring him there. During a press pre-brief Q&A, the D&D team also said there is no quota for how many Universes Beyond books it will produce.

D&D World of Warcraft will give fans a new way to use Azeroth’s locations, characters, factions, monsters, spells, and items at the table when early access begins on November 3. The full release will follow two weeks later on November 17.
