NBA 2K27 Will Add Dynamic Dunk Timing, 53 Badges, and a Neon City

Visual Concepts will reveal the full game on August 18, while Deluxe and Ultra Edition buyers can begin playing as early as August 28.

NBA 2K27 will bring a dynamic Dunk Meter, 53 total Badges, a unified MyTEAM Auction House, and a nighttime version of The City when the basketball series moves into its next season. Visual Concepts shared the early details in its NBA 2K27 Courtside Report on Steam, with the full game reveal scheduled for August 18.

The NBA 2K27 Preseason Breakdown: Game Reveal will stream on August 18 at 10:00 AM PT across Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and X. Visual Concepts said the presentation will cover the year’s gameplay changes, MyPLAYER Builder, The City, and other features, including a full tour of The City. A first gameplay trailer is also available now.

Until then, the report offers an early look at several systems. The biggest gameplay change affects dunks, while MyPLAYER builds, MyTEAM card trading, MyNBA franchise tools, and The City are all receiving updates.

NBA 2K27 Gameplay Changes

AI defenders will contest shots more consistently

AI defenders are being adjusted to provide stronger resistance, especially in modes such as The REC. They should hold their defensive position more often and will be less affected by Triple-Threat Stepovers.

The Dunk Meter will react to defense

Every dunk attempt in NBA 2K27 will require timing through the Dunk Meter. Unlike the static meter in NBA 2K26, the new version will assess defensive positioning from takeoff through the finish.

A clean drive into an open paint should produce a larger green window after a successful first step. A defender who closes late after takeoff can shrink that window, turning the finish into a more demanding attempt.

MyPLAYER Builder Adds 19 New Badges

NBA 2K27 will include 53 Badges, up from 40 in NBA 2K26. Six returning Badges were removed, while 19 new ones were added alongside changes to the remaining options.

Three of the new Badges shown in the report are:

  • Pace: Raises the ball handler’s overall sprint speed in offensive situations.
  • Wall-Up: Lowers an opponent’s shot chance when defending with hands up.
  • Flash: Improves movement during transition offense without the ball and during defense.

Cap Breakers are also returning. Players will be able to preview their attribute boosts inside the Builder, reducing the need to repeatedly enter The City while testing different layouts.

MyTEAM Auction House Unites Three Platforms

For the first time, the MyTEAM Auction House will share one card pool across PlayStation®5, XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Visual Concepts said the unified market should provide more card variety and steadier prices.

Card purchases will also become faster on those platforms. Winning an auction will no longer involve a verification delay, so cards will be available immediately after purchase.

MyNBA and The City

MyNBA will add the effects of the second apron from the current CBA and let players offer No-Trade Clauses to free agents. These changes are part of a broader effort to bring the franchise mode closer to the way the league operates today.

The City will keep the more centralized layout introduced in NBA 2K26, but its presentation will move to a nighttime, neon style. New designs are planned for The REC, Street Kings, Park, and other areas.

Rucker Park will also join Street Kings. The famous New York court will appear in the MyCAREER prelude story, “Fire & Concrete.” Players will take on Street Kings bosses while trying to become a neighborhood hero.

NBA 2K27 Early Access Date

More details will arrive during the August 18 Game Reveal. Players who preorder the Deluxe Edition or Ultra Edition can receive up to seven days of early access, beginning August 28 at 9:00 AM PT. Availability may differ by region and time zone, with additional details available in the official NBA 2K27 FAQ.
