World of Warcraft’s 12.0.7 Hotfixes Cut PvP Defense and Make Decor Duel More Forgiving

The July 20–27 hotfixes also corrected the Dance of Midnight Apex talent and adjusted healing for several PvP specializations.

Blizzard issued a short run of World of Warcraft: Midnight hotfixes between July 20 and 27, with the main changes focused on PvP class tuning. Demon Hunters and Mistweavers received reductions, while Discipline and Holy Priests gained healing improvements. Restoration Shamans also received a stronger Riptide.

The same hotfix cycle corrected the Dance of Midnight Apex talent for Death Knights. Its second and third ranks had been increasing damage taken instead of reducing it. Decor Duel also received several changes that make it easier for hiders to stay concealed, while doubling the mode’s Illusionary Coins rewards.

Blizzard’s official July 21 hotfix notes contain the full list of adjustments.

What changed in PvP?

Demon Hunters lost part of the protection provided by two abilities. Demon Muzzle now cuts magic damage taken by 5% in PvP, down from 15%, while Glimpse reduces damage taken by 25% during its airborne period after Vengeful Retreat, down from 35%.

Mistweaver Monks also received a large reduction to Way of the Crane. The ability now converts 100% of Spinning Crane Kick’s damage into healing in PvP, compared with 340% before the hotfix.

Priests moved in the opposite direction. Discipline’s spell healing increased by 3% in PvP. Holy Priests received a 15% increase to Holy Fire’s direct damage, a 27% increase to its periodic damage, and a 3% increase to all healing.

Restoration Shamans received a 15% increase to Riptide healing in PvP. Blizzard said the change was meant to improve the specialization’s instant healing output.

Death Knight talent bug fixed

The hotfix corrected ranks 2 and 3 of the Dance of Midnight Apex talent. Those ranks now reduce damage taken as intended rather than increasing it.

Decor Duel changes

Decor Duel received a collection of changes aimed at both sides of the match. The final 30 seconds no longer automatically reveal players who are still hiding, and seekers now gain energy at a 20% slower rate. Hiders also no longer attract flies.

The mode’s Illusionary Coins rewards increased by 100%, giving players a much larger payout for completing Decor Duel matches.

Patch Notes: World of Warcraft: Midnight 12.0.7

These hotfixes correct a Death Knight talent, adjust the pace and rewards of Decor Duel, and rebalance several PvP healing and mitigation effects.

  • Classes
    • Death Knight
      • Fixed a bug that caused the Dance of Midnight Apex talent ranks 2 and 3 to incorrectly increase damage taken. They now decrease damage taken, as intended.

Decor Duel

  • The last 30 seconds of a Decor Duel match no longer auto-reveals remaining hiders.
  • The rate of energy increase for seekers is slowed by 20%.
  • Hiders no longer attract flies.
  • Illusionary Coins rewards increased by 100%.

Player versus Player

  • Demon Hunter
    • Developers’ notes: Both Devourer and Havoc Demon Hunters have been more difficult to land kills against than intended. We’re reducing the potency of shared mitigation effects that are contributing to their survival.
    • Demon Muzzle now reduces magic damage taken by 5% in PvP combat (was 15%).
    • Glimpse now reduces damage taken by 25% (was 35%) while airborne after using Vengeful Retreat.
  • Monk
    • Mistweaver
      • Developers’ notes: We’re reducing Mistweavers’ ability to heal versus clumped targets in PvP since they’ve been outputting more healing than we’d like against pet classes.
      • Way of the Crane now transfers 100% of Spinning Crane Kick’s damage into healing in PvP Combat (was 340%).
  • Priest
    • Discipline
      • Healing of all spells increased by 3% in PvP combat.
    • Holy
      • Developers’ notes: We’re increasing overall healing and providing an opportunity for Holy Priests to contribute offensively to secure kills with their team.
      • Holy Fire direct damage increased by 15%.
      • Holy Fire periodic damage increased by 27%.
      • All healing increased by 3%.
  • Shaman
    • Restoration
      • Developers’ notes: Restoration Shaman healing performance has been slightly behind other healers in PvP, so we’re targeting an increase to their instant healing capabilities.
      • Riptide healing increased by 15% in PvP combat.

Quests

  • Dawnwell questgivers should now correctly be in place to turn in the quest “From Darkness, Light” and should stick around until the player has picked up “Hagar’s Invitation”.

These changes give PvP players several class adjustments to test while making Decor Duel less punishing for hiders. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
