What is causing the Xbox outage?
Xbox Support acknowledged the problem and said its engineers were working to reduce the impact. The affected services include account sign-ins, access to game libraries, and game launches, so players may run into errors before they can even start a title.
Xbox Support shared the first update on July 27, confirming that the issue was under investigation:

Microsoft had not provided a clear cause or a restoration time when the follow-up update was posted. That means players may continue to see problems with online games and other account-connected features until the service is restored.
When will Xbox services be back?
There was no confirmed return time for the affected Xbox services. Xbox Support later checked in with players and said teams were still working on the game library, sign-in, and game launch problems.

For now, players can try again later, though repeatedly signing out or reinstalling games is unlikely to fix a server-side outage. Offline features may remain available for games that support them, but online play and services tied to an Xbox account can be restricted.
