MARVEL Tokon Beta Has Players Weighing a Day-One Purchase

Arc System Works' current beta mixes accessible special-move inputs, demanding team mechanics, and a comic-book Episodes mode ahead of the game's August 6 launch.

The current beta for MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls is giving players a close look at Arc System Works’ 4v4 fighter before its planned August 6, 2026 launch. It is also raising a practical question for anyone enjoying the test: is the game worth buying on day one?

The core fighting feels approachable at first, with “easy input” special moves giving newer players a simpler way to perform attacks. Traditional Dragon Punch-style inputs remain available for players who prefer them, and those commands can deal more damage. That gives the control options a little more depth than a basic beginner mode.

Team mechanics ask a lot from players

MARVEL Tokon’s tag system has received changes since earlier beta tests, but managing assists and character switches can still feel demanding. The two actions use separate buttons, which means players must keep track of several tools while also watching the opponent and setting up attacks.

That busy structure is part of the game’s appeal. Arc System Works has given the fighter a bold anime-inspired presentation, and matches remain visually lively even when one player is spending a little too much time getting knocked across the screen.

Episodes mode adds a single-player option

The beta also includes the single-player Episodes mode. Its comic-book presentation follows Spider-Man’s story with art from Betten Court of My Hero Academia: Vigilante. The full game is expected to feature five different narratives, with a different artist working on each one.

That variety could give the campaign a distinct identity beyond its multiplayer battles. The story content is not the main reason to buy a fighting game, but it gives players another way to spend time with the roster and Marvel setting.

Some beta issues still need attention

Online performance has been inconsistent. Many matches run smoothly, while others suffer from stuttering that makes the rollback netcode feel less dependable than it should. The beta’s menus also have a few unnecessary interruptions, including title cards that appear when entering Quick Training.

Those are the kinds of problems Arc System Works can address before launch, and the developer has been responding to player feedback during the test. Whether the final version can smooth out the online experience may be an important factor for players deciding how soon to buy.

For now, the beta presents a colorful team fighter with flexible controls, demanding tag mechanics, and a more developed single-player offering than some players may expect.
