You Can Beat Mega Mewtwo Y in Pokémon GO with These Raid Picks

Mega Mewtwo Y is a Psychic-type Super Mega Raid boss in Pokémon GO. Its weaknesses are Bug, Dark, and Ghost attacks, but the battle has one giant twist: every Trainer needs a Mega Pokémon ready to help break the boss’s shields.

These raids require a minimum of 10 Trainers. Each player should place a Mega Pokémon in the last slot of their battle party. That setup matters because the Mega Pokémon is sent into battle when Mega Mewtwo Y activates a shield.

Best Mega Mewtwo Y counters

The strongest options in the listed raid rankings include Ghost-, Dark-, and Bug-type attackers. Dawn Wings Necrozma leads the group, while Mega Tyranitar and Shadow Tyranitar offer powerful Dark-type damage.

Other choices include Mega Salamence, Tyranitar, Mega Gyarados, Mega Heracross, Mega Scizor, Hydreigon, Mega Pinsir, Darkrai, Gholdengo, Altered Shadow Giratina, Mega Banette, Origin Giratina, Crowned Sword Zacian, Mega Metagross, Crowned Shield Zamazenta, Dusk Mane Necrozma, Shadow Chandelure, Kingambit, Shadow Mewtwo, and Shadow Weavile.

How the Super Mega Raid shields work

Mega Mewtwo Y begins the encounter with 10 shields. Each shield must be broken by a Mega Charged Attack, which means the group needs 10 successful Mega attacks. Every Trainer can break only one shield.

• When the boss activates a shield, a Mega Pokémon from the raid party is automatically sent into battle.
• The Mega Pokémon’s next attack is much more powerful than normal and can break the shield.
• After enough shields are destroyed, Mega Mewtwo Y returns to its normal stats and takes regular damage again.

Because the shield count matches the minimum lobby size, every player has to contribute. If two Trainers fail to use their Mega attacks, shields remain in place and the raid timer can run out.

How to avoid a failed Mega Mewtwo Y raid

Put a Mega Pokémon in the final slot

Place the Mega Pokémon at the end of the battle party rather than sending it out first. This gives it a chance to use its Charged Attack when the boss needs a shield broken.

Rejoin if your Mega faints too soon

If the Mega Pokémon faints before using a Charged Attack, leave the battle, heal the team, and re-enter the raid. Every Mega Charged Attack helps with the shield phase.

Do not use Primal Pokémon for shield breaking

Primal Pokémon cannot break shields in Super Mega Raids. Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre are not recommended as counters for this encounter.

Mega Mewtwo Y catch CP and shiny availability

After the raid, Mewtwo can appear between 2294 and 2387 CP without a weather boost. Windy weather raises the possible range to 2868 through 2984 CP.

A shiny Mewtwo can also appear after a Mega Raid. The regular and shiny versions of both Mewtwo and Mega Mewtwo Y are available to compare in the encounter screen.
