Resident Evil 4 Remake Has Sold 16.8 Million Copies and Earned Capcom $560 Million
Alinea Analytics estimates that the 2023 remake has sold more than three times as many copies as Oblivion Remastered and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Resident Evil 4 remake has reached 16.8 million copies sold across its three platforms, according to an estimate from Alinea Analytics. That figure puts Capcom’s 2023 survival-horror release at the top of the current remake sales rankings, with an estimated $560 million in gross revenue.
Alinea Analytics market analysis lead Rhys Elliott shared the figures in a breakdown of the best-selling remakes and remasters released since 2020. The estimate assigns 53.1% of Resident Evil 4’s revenue to PlayStation, 34.1% to Steam, and 12.8% to Xbox.
The gap between Resident Evil 4 and the other games in the ranking is wide. Ark: Survival Ascended follows with 7 million copies sold, while The Last of Us Part 1 remake has reached 6.3 million. Oblivion Remastered stands at 4.5 million, the Dead Space remake at 4.3 million, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at 4.2 million.
Silent Hill 2 remake sits at the bottom of Alinea’s list with 3.2 million copies sold. Elliott also described Resident Evil 4 as one of the most successful single-player horror games ever, though the available figures are analyst estimates rather than a sales announcement from Capcom.
The numbers suggest that age and reputation alone do not explain why Resident Evil 4 has pulled so far ahead. Silent Hill 2 is an older, highly regarded game, while Oblivion’s original release also dates back to the same general period as the original Resident Evil 4. The remake’s first-year performance provides some context, with contemporaneous reporting putting its sales at 3 million copies within a year.
Pricing may have helped Resident Evil 4 keep attracting buyers years after launch. The game is currently listed on Steam for $9.99, down from $39.99. By comparison, the source breakdown lists Silent Hill 2 at $27.99 on sale and Oblivion Remastered at $49.99.
Elliott said Steam’s portion of Resident Evil 4’s lifetime revenue grew from 28% during launch week to 34.1%. That pattern points to Capcom’s back catalogue continuing to generate sales long after release, particularly when older games reach lower price points on PC.
Resident Evil 4 remake launched with a familiar name, but its third-person combat, updated presentation, and expanded take on the original adventure gave players a reason to return to the story. Alinea’s estimate now places it well ahead of the other major remakes and remasters in its comparison.
