Teeto’s PS5 Trailer Gets Caught in Sony’s Physical-Game Backlash

The indie platformer's trailer had 950 downvotes compared with 259 upvotes as players protested Sony's planned move away from disc releases.

Eat Pant Games’ launch celebration for Teeto took an unexpected turn after the New Zealand indie studio’s PS5 trailer became a gathering point for criticism of Sony’s physical-game plans.

Teeto is a 3D platformer starring a blob and a bunny who are trying to stop a shadowy corruption from spreading across the world. Its launch trailer was posted on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, where it quickly drew hundreds of comments.

Instead of focusing on the game, most of the discussion centered on Sony’s announcement that it will stop releasing games on disc starting in January 2028. Eat Pant Games reacted to the response in a Bluesky post, joking that the team had expected comments about Teeto before realizing what was happening.

“Oh… oh no,” the studio wrote after seeing the trailer’s comment count pass 400. Comments included calls to “keep discs alive” and requests for physical versions of PlayStation games.

At the time of reporting, the video had 405 comments, along with 950 downvotes and 259 upvotes. YouTube no longer displays public dislike totals by default, but those figures remain available through browser extensions and other tracking tools.

The backlash has spread across PlayStation’s channel

Teeto was not the only game caught up in the response. Recent videos for Mai: Child of Ages, Where Winds Meet, Moss: The Forgotten Relic, Farming Camp, and The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu have also drawn comment sections focused on physical releases, with downvotes outnumbering upvotes.

The reaction has reached bigger games as well. A Spider-Man trailer for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls had 5,100 downvotes, 1,700 upvotes, and more than 1,100 comments largely discussing Sony’s disc plans.

A trailer for the Kortz Center Heist content in GTA Online had 3,100 downvotes and 675 upvotes, plus more than 1,200 comments. A separate launch trailer for Denshattack had 1,300 downvotes and 453 upvotes, with players asking for a physical edition despite the game’s 88 Metacritic score.

A Change.org petition calling on Sony to reverse the decision had passed 320,000 signatures. Sony’s manufacturing plans have also added to concerns among physical-media supporters. The company has invested around €30 million in equipment for optical microlenses at its largest PlayStation disc plant in Austria, while staff there have started training for other work.

The response has put an otherwise cheerful indie launch in the middle of a much wider argument about ownership and physical game preservation. For Eat Pant Games, the attention may have brought more eyes to Teeto, but much of the conversation has focused on Sony instead.
