Ubisoft Says Black Flag Resynced Players Don’t Need Its Extra DLC

The publisher says the standard edition includes every mission, island, story element, and part of the game world.

Ubisoft has responded to criticism surrounding the microtransactions in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, telling players that the standard edition contains the full game and that its additional DLC packs are optional.

The response followed a wave of negative Steam reviews tied to the game’s extra content. Players pointed to almost $90 worth of available microtransactions, although the review score later recovered to Mostly Positive. The current review page is available through Steam’s top-rated reviews.

Ubisoft Addresses the DLC Complaints

Ubisoft has been replying to some of the criticism directly. In a response reported by GamesRadar+, the publisher said the standard version includes all of the content needed to play through the experience, including its missions, islands, story, and world.

Ubisoft’s full response reads:

We’ve seen your feedback since launch, and we’re reading all of it. Thank you for caring this much about Black Flag Resynced. We want to be clear on one point: the standard edition is the full, complete experience. Every mission, every island, the full story and the complete world are all there, with nothing held back. The additional packs are entirely optional extras for players who want them, never a requirement to enjoy or complete the game.

We’ll keep listening as you play!

The replies came after players questioned the value of the Deluxe Edition when more paid content appeared in the game at launch. Some reviews cited an additional $84.91 in DLC, while another player objected to seeing £76 worth of content after buying the £59.99 Deluxe Edition.

Ubisoft’s position is that these packs do not remove missions, locations, story content, or other parts of the core game from the standard release. The publisher has not indicated that it plans to remove or change the optional purchases.
