Intel’s latest desktop chips got a stealthy price hike

Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus prices moved up by tens of dollars, with Intel pointing to supply costs and strong demand.

Intel has quietly raised the suggested price on its Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop CPUs, and the bump hits the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, and their iGPU-less F variants. The 270K Plus now sits in the $339 to $349 range, while the 250K Plus has moved to $219 to $229.

According to HardwareLuxx, Intel said, “The recent pricing updates reflect current market dynamics, including rising supply chain costs and strong demand for our Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors. These updates are in line with recent price increases for other Intel product families based on similar factors.

There is a little more context here, too. Intel makes the Foveros interposer base tile in these chips and handles the final packaging, but TSMC still builds the compute tile, IO tile, and graphics chiplet. If those costs go up, Intel feels it. And because LGA 1851 is already at the end of the road, anyone buying into this platform today will need a new motherboard for a future Nova Lake upgrade.

Intel’s processors are still strong buys if you want top-end desktop performance, but this kind of price tweak makes the value math a lot less friendly. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
