CD Projekt Red has gone back to its familiar point about what counts as an expansion after The Witcher 3‘s Songs of the Past was revealed on May 27, 2026.
The new content also lined up with months of talk about fresh The Witcher 3 expansion rumors, and associate game director PaweÅ‚ Sasko kept the conversation going on X by sharing an interview clip and writing, “let me remind you the definition of the expansion”.

The clip pulled Idris Elba’s comments from the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty rollout back into the spotlight. In that interview, Elba pushed back on calling the add-on simple DLC and treated it as a full expansion instead.
That comparison matters because Phantom Liberty was not a small side pack. It added a new storyline, a new map area, extra quests, new features, and fresh mechanics. HowLongToBeat lists the expansion at about 13 hours for the main story and roughly 30 hours overall, according to HowLongToBeat.
If CD Projekt Red is using the same playbook for Songs of the Past, players may be looking at something much bigger than a standard DLC release. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
