The Witcher 3 Remastered will make HalkHogan’s HD overhaul official
The modder confirmed that his work will be included on PC and consoles when the remaster arrives on September 29, 2026.

The Witcher 3 Remastered will include work from HalkHogan, the creator of The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition. The visual overhaul will be available inside the official game on September 29, 2026, giving players a polished version of one of the RPG’s best-known community projects without requiring the original mod separately.
The remaster is planned for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Existing owners will receive the remastered version as a free upgrade.
CD Projekt Red revealed the remaster during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. Alongside its upgraded visuals, the project will bring broader changes to how Geralt’s adventure looks and plays, while HalkHogan’s contributions will cover a huge portion of the game’s visual assets.
HalkHogan confirmed the arrangement in a Nexus Mods update, explaining that he is working with CD Projekt Red. “My work will be officially available in the game on September 29th,” he wrote. He also said HDRP will no longer be needed, referring to the standalone HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition.
HalkHogan’s overhaul will cover much of the game
The project reworks thousands of textures and models, reaching nearly all in-game characters, monsters, animals, vegetation, armor, and equipment for Geralt and Roach. A large part of the environment has also received visual changes, giving the remaster’s world a broader refresh than a simple resolution bump.
The overhaul’s reach is reflected in its download figures. The 2024 version had more than 325,000 unique downloads and 725,582 total downloads by the time of the announcement. The OldGen version, which was uploaded in 2015, had reached 1.7 million unique downloads and 5.8 million total downloads.
HalkHogan’s work has already been part of the official game once before. His original HD Reworked Project, now referred to as the “OldGen Edition,” was included in The Witcher 3‘s 2022 next-generation update. The remaster will continue that relationship with a newer version of the project.
The remaster will go beyond its visual overhaul
CD Projekt Red has described the project as a ground-up overhaul, with planned changes to movement, combat, monster behavior, Witcher Signs, skills, gear, mounts, and photo tools. HalkHogan’s visual work will arrive alongside a broader update to the way Geralt’s adventure looks and plays.

With the project arriving as part of the remaster, PC players will not need to maintain the separate HDRP installation for the included improvements. Console players will also receive the work through the official release, which is scheduled for September 29. CD Projekt Red has not provided further details here about how the remaster will handle the mod’s individual assets, but the broad plan is now clear.
