Stellar Blade 2 is moving away from Sony, and that could change its launch plans

Shift Up said the sequel is in development, will be self-published, and will not follow the original game's Sony publishing deal.

Shift Up has confirmed that Stellar Blade 2 will not be published by Sony, with the studio taking self-publishing duties on the sequel instead.

In its latest earnings report, Shift Up said the next Stellar Blade title is “progressing smoothly, on track to meet our targeted quality standards.” That is the clearest sign yet that the sequel is moving forward, even if the studio has not said when it will be shown.

The same report also makes the publishing change plain. Shift Up said, “Starting with this next title, Shift Up will transition to a first-party service model.” The company added that this will let it steer marketing around the Stellar Blade IP more directly and speak to players more effectively from day one.

What the report does not do is lock down where Stellar Blade 2 will launch. It only confirms that Sony will not be publishing it, so the sequel’s platform list remains open for now.
