Swen Vincke says Larian’s next Divinity has hit the point where it feels alive
Vincke said the new RPG is still rough in places, but the team can now feel the game's shape coming together.

Larian Studios founder and CEO Swen Vincke shared a new update on the studio’s next Divinity game, saying development has reached the point where the team can sense the project coming alive.
Vincke’s comments came after Larian revealed the new Divinity project back in December, and the studio has only given out scattered details since then. What is clear is that this is a standalone RPG, that it is larger than Baldur’s Gate 3, and that Larian wants more interaction between companions.
In a post on X, Vincke said writing director Adam Smith spent a week working through one situation and refining the wording and ideas behind it. He said the detail that stood out was not just the ideas themselves, but the energy behind them.
I had a good day today. Well – development me – had a good day. Real me is fighting off the remaining symptoms of a cold.
I realized I was having a good dev day when Adam – our writing director – started discussing the game with me.
He just spent a week running through…

Vincke described that as the point in development when a game still has rough edges and missing pieces, but starts to feel real. He said that once a project reaches that stage, it can only get better from there.
He also said the conversation drifted into the arcs of one of the game’s antagonists and into small details, which was enough for him to feel confident that the project was on the right path.
For now, Larian is still keeping most of the new Divinity under wraps. The studio has said the game will be a brand-new standalone title, that it will be bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3, and that it will not use AI-generated genitals. Beyond that, fans are still waiting for a fuller look at what comes next.
If you’re following Larian’s next move, this is another sign the project is moving through a healthy stage of development. Tell us what you think in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
