Terraria 1.4.5 lands January 27 with RC cars, roller skates, and crossplay prep

Terraria 1.4.5 will release on Tuesday January 27, Re-Logic has confirmed. The date was posted by Ted “Loki” Murphy, head of business strategy, on the developer’s official forums and follows a brief delay while the team resubmitted builds and waited on approvals. Murphy wrote, “We have a few more things to get done between now and then (a couple of approvals still pending as well), but start the countdown because Terraria 1.4.5 will be in your hands in 13 short days,” in the forum thread. The post is available on the forums here.

The update has grown substantially since it was first planned for 2023. The public notes and previews list a very long changelog and a wide set of miscellaneous features. Key additions include an RC Car for fast traversal, NPC housing changes, a new Flint weapon, the Slime Spear and Slime Whip, an axerang for cutting down trees, roller skates, and a pufferfish pet among many other items.

Players can expect both small quality of life tweaks and more visible toys that will change how worlds are explored. The update is also being used to prepare for crossplay. Re-Logic says crossplay support for console, desktop, and mobile will arrive after the 1.4.5 hotfix cycle is complete. For a broader list of planned features, the community has collected upcoming additions on the Terraria wiki here. The full scope of the official changelog is extensive and will be available with the update.

Players who have been waiting since the initial 2023 target should see the update on January 27, provided the remaining approvals finish as the team expects. The release comes after a long development stretch and may represent the final major content push for Terraria before the studio moves on to other projects.
