Midnight alpha realms taken offline ahead of Beta opening

Blizzard has taken the World of Warcraft Midnight alpha realms offline to prepare for the next test phase. The developer says the servers are being updated for the Midnight Beta, which will open on November 11. The alpha suffered from minimal testing because too few players were invited. With the Beta imminent, players who pre-ordered Midnight are guaranteed a Beta invite, so expect a much larger pool of testers once the gates open.

The developer posted the timing and rationale on the official Blizzard forums in a short notice linked below. The public announcement included an infographic that summarizes the systems and features planned for Beta testing. The image is below for a quick look, and it highlights the major areas Blizzard wants extra eyes on during the next round of testing.

For context on how signups were handled earlier and who gets access, see the Midnight Beta signups coverage on the site. The forum post linked below is the primary notice about the alpha shutdown and Beta timing.

Blizzard forum post on the Midnight alpha shutdown

We’ve taken Midnight Alpha realms offline to begin updating the environment to the next test version– the Midnight Beta.

We’ll open the Midnight Beta tomorrow, November 11.

Players who were in the alpha will not be able to log in while the environment is updated for Beta. Expect the developer to bring up additional servers and invite waves once the Beta goes live to accommodate pre-order holders and expanded testing.
