Development update #146 for SCUM landed on Steam, and it’s mostly about groundwork: a big inventory and UI rework, art and sound work, and a round of bug fixes that set the stage for a bigger Q4 update. The programming team is deep into a long-requested inventory and UI overhaul to make the interface more intuitive and fix long-standing issues. They’re also polishing, fixing bugs, and optimizing systems so future features land more smoothly.
Gamepires’ LD crew is testing features that the studio can’t quite show yet and creating assets for the next update. They’re also reworking existing parts of the world based on community feedback and squashing related bugs to keep things consistent. Animation teams are focused on smoothing visual flow and immersion. Hard surface artists are designing new items, such as a bottle rework, a knife with flint and compass, and a paint job for the Zündapp. Meanwhile, soft surface artists and 2D artists are focusing on bug fixes and contributing to the inventory redesign.
The sound team is designing audio for the Thompson SMG and a new vehicle. Meanwhile, game design is chipping away at the backlog, polishing interactions and addressing bugs so gameplay feels tighter. This update note is shorter than usual because most work right now supports the update that just shipped, plus a planned hotfix. Once that is wrapped, the team will push more updates and reveal ways players can get involved with development for the Q4 content.
