Apex Legends September 5 Update reduces code:net and sh_challenge crashes

A small stability update for Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment arrived as the 9/5/25 Update, addressing a spate of crashes players reported this week. The short patch reduces occurrences of code:net and sh_challenge errors that could drop sessions on PC and consoles, so fewer matches should be interrupted.

Respawn posted the note on Steam in its Steam announcement. Engineers said the fixes aim to lower crash counts and stabilize sessions across live services. The announcement called out two error signatures by name and thanked players for their patience. No platform breakdown or build number was provided in the notice.

“You should now see fewer code:net and sh_challenge errors while in the game.”

According to the Steam announcement, the patch addresses crash conditions tied to network and challenge systems, reducing interruptions during matches and improving session stability across platforms while logs are monitored. Crashes should be less frequent now. If errors persist, the developer will likely collect additional reports through official channels.
