Battlefield 6 developers have shared their thoughts on how it relates to Call of Duty, saying the two games complement each other rather than compete. This is a refreshing take amid all the usual rivalry chatter, especially as Battlefield 6’s open beta weekend 2 is underway and drawing plenty of attention.
With players jumping into new maps and modes, comparisons between these two FPS giants are inevitable. Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella and Battlefield GM Byron Beede opened up in an interview with Jake Lucky about how they view the relationship between the franchises, especially since both had roots in the Call of Duty team.
Byron Beede pointed out that Battlefield and Call of Duty have coexisted for a long time and actually “complement each other in different ways.” Each game brings something to the table that the other doesn’t. For example, Battlefield’s features like destruction and its class system create a pretty distinct experience.
Beede said Battlefield is a competitor, sure, “like every other game’s a competitor kind of in a way,” but it’s also distinct and offers things no one else really can. That’s kinda a bold statement but it rings true if you’ve played both games. Call of Duty focuses on tight, fast-paced action while Battlefield leans into large-scale battles with environmental destruction

Vince Zampella and Byron Beede also touched on other topics like community feedback, anti-cheat measures, and teased a Battle Royale mode. The interview was recorded during the first open beta weekend, so players can expect more info to come.
It’s interesting to contrast this with what a former Blizzard boss said recently, claiming Battlefield 6 will “boot stomp” Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Wow, that’s some confidence! Guess they’re hoping it works.
