Grounded 2 Platform Availability: Xbox and PC Lead, PlayStation and Switch Left Waiting

Grounded 2 will kick off its journey as an Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusive, leaving PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players on the sidelines for now. After the first game’s multi-platform debut, fans hoped the sequel would follow suit, but Obsidian Entertainment has different plans.

Grounded eventually made its way to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in April 2024, raising expectations that the sequel might follow suit. Nope.

Marcus Morgan, executive producer of Grounded 2, told GamesRadar that the focus has been on crafting a solid early access experience on Xbox first. The door isn’t slammed shut on other platforms forever, but for now, Xbox players get the early invite. Morgan said, “Our focus is just on what our players are enjoying, and what’s satisfying is that we can do that in a sustainable manner.

Grounded 2 will not be available on PlayStation 5 at launch

Despite the first game making the jump to PlayStation and Switch, Obsidian is holding back the sequel for now. The Xbox exclusivity runs deep, but the team hasn’t ruled out a PlayStation release down the road. It’s a wait-and-see situation, though no promises have been made.

Yes, Grounded 2 will launch exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will receive day-one access at no additional cost, which is a great deal. Obsidian hasn’t shared how long this exclusivity will last, so it’s anyone’s guess when or if it expands beyond these platforms.

Grounded 2 won’t be available on Nintendo Switch at launch

While the original made its way to Switch, the sequel is currently exclusive to Xbox and PC. Obsidian mentioned that improving the game on Xbox is their priority before considering ports to other platforms. So, Switch fans might have to hold tight a bit longer.

So what’s the future hold for Grounded 2 beyond Xbox and PC? Obsidian seems open to possibilities but is playing it cautious. Will PlayStation and Switch eventually get a shot? Time will tell, but for now, Xbox and PC players have the keys to the bug-sized survival action. What’s your take? Should Grounded 2 stay exclusive or spread out like its predecessor?
