Delta Force Invitational Brings a Surprising $500K Tournament to the Esports World

Delta Force is stepping into the esports arena with an event that’s kinda unexpected but definitely impressive. The Delta Force Invitational is a $500,000 tournament will take place this September in China, featuring over 1000 teams competing from eight different regions. This will be the first official competition for Delta Force, which is scheduled to release shortly after the console version on August 19.

Called the ‘ultimate esports tournament’ by its organizers, Team Jade and TiMi, the Invitational is eager for global reach and high stakes. The scale alone is eye-popping, with teams from countries such as Japan, Korea, North America, and Europe invited to participate.

The official announcement came through social media, where the developers shared a glimpse of what to expect. The tournament will feature a total prize pool of $500,000, divided between the Open Qualifiers and the Final event.

Registration for qualifiers opens between July 14 and 27. I have to say, calling it an Invitational is a little unusual since teams register to compete, which is usually not the case for invitation-only events. Perhaps it’s a mix of invites and qualifiers, but that’s not yet clear.

Players must be at least 18 years old to enter and can’t be ‘travelers or students,’ which sounds oddly specific and leaves me wondering about the exact eligibility rules.

Prize Pool Breakdown

DFI Open Qualifiers Finals:

  • 1st Place: $4,000
  • 2nd Place: $3,000
  • 3rd Place: $1,000
  • 4th – 6th Place: $500
  • 7th – 12th Place: $100

DFI Final:

  • Champion: $150,000
  • 2nd Place: $80,000
  • 3rd Place: $50,000
  • 4th – 6th Place: $30,000
  • 7th – 12th Place: $20,000

No word has been released on the competitive format yet, but since registration has just begun, we may hear more soon.
