Cyberpunk 2077 Ranks as Switch 2’s Second Most Popular Launch Title

The Switch 2 launched with a strong lineup, including the obvious headliner Mario Kart World. However, one surprising standout is Cyberpunk 2077, which has become the second-best-selling game on the new system, both digitally and physically. This is notable given the game’s rocky history on previous consoles.

Cyberpunk 2077 was notorious for performance issues when it first released on last-gen consoles, but CD Projekt Red has worked hard to create a version that runs on the Switch 2, including its handheld mode. While it’s not flawless, the port has drawn enough attention and sales to become the system’s #2 launch game in the U.S.

Here’s how the launch sales rank in the U.S.:

Physical copies:

  1. Mario Kart World
  2. Cyberpunk 2077
  3. The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition

eShop downloads:

  1. Mario Kart World
  2. Cyberpunk 2077
  3. The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition
  4. Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time – Switch 2 Edition
  5. Deltarune

CDPR recently shared that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 30 million copies worldwide since its launch more than four years ago. Being a major title on the Switch 2 launch, a console that has broken initial sales records, will likely help the game reach even more players. Despite earlier statements about ceasing updates, the game continues to receive patches, supported by external studios as CDPR focuses on developing the upcoming Cyberpunk sequel and The Witcher 4.

It’s interesting to wonder if the Switch 2 will follow a similar pattern to the original Switch, which first relied heavily on ports of earlier games and faced challenges running the newest releases as time passed. That didn’t hurt the first Switch’s success much, so maybe it won’t matter this time either…
