So, here we are! The hype train for Mortal Kombat 1‘s DLC has hit a significant speed bump. Reports are swirling that the latest story expansion, Khaos Reigns, hasn’t sold well. Like… what happened?
A Reddit user named _FateUnknown_, who has some clout regarding insider info, claims that we were set to receive a third Kombat pack and even another story expansion. But guess what? Those plans might just be toast now! The buzz is that Khaos Reigns’ “low sales” are to blame. Released earlier this year for $49.99/£39.99, it came packed with new story content alongside the second Kombat Pack featuring fresh characters. Sounds promising, right? Wrong! Fans have been less than thrilled.
As per Steam reviews, which you know can be brutal, the expansion has garnered a “mostly negative” rating based on 68 reviews. The main gripes? There is a serious lack of content and value for money. Ouch! This week did bring us Ghostface as the tenth DLC character, a little glimmer of hope! He’s the fourth addition from Kombat Pack 2, and fans seem excited about him despite everything else.
The first Kombat Pack was pretty stacked, too, featuring iconic characters like Omni-Man from Image Comics and Homelander from The Boys, among others. So far in this new pack, we’ve seen some fan-favorites return, like Cyrax and Noob Saibot, but will Ghostface pave the way for more guest characters?
Up next? We’re expecting appearances from T-1000 (hello Terminator fans!) and Conan the Barbarian, yet no release dates have been locked down yet which is kind of nerve-wracking. Cue dramatic music because this development raises questions about where Mortal Kombat is headed next! Can they bounce back? Fingers crossed!
