7 Days to Die’s Henpocalypse Update Is Now Stable, and the Chickens Are in Trouble

V3.1.0 adds chicken coops, breeding, poultry recipes, new sandbox controls, and a Wednesday release date for the Big Beak cosmetic outfit.

7 Days to Die V3.1.0 is now live on the stable branch. The Henpocalypse update turns chicken collection into a full survival routine, complete with coops, feed, breeding, poultry recipes, and a few new ways for zombies to ruin your afternoon. The Fun Pimps shared the release details in the official Steam announcement.

Players need to select Default Public Version to use the stable V3.1.0 build. Dedicated-server players who cannot connect should check that they are on the correct branch.

The update’s main feature is the Chicken Coop. After catching a chicken and protecting it from zombies on the trip home, players can place it in the workstation to produce eggs and feathers. The coop has three tool slots: a Brooding Lamp to speed up production and maturation, a Chicken Run that cuts feed costs by 50%, and a Nesting Box that unlocks breeding and adds nesting slots.

Chickens require Rekt’s Chicken Feed, which is crafted from Corn and Rotting Flesh. A new Chicken Stress event can also trigger when a captured bird reaches 100% stress. Depending on the game stage, that may mean dropping the chicken, dealing with angry zombies, or facing angry chickens. A sandbox setting lets players adjust how these events work.

Four chicken-focused recipes round out the update. Chicken Nuggets temporarily remove encumbrance, Chicken Wings temporarily boost melee damage and provide infection immunity, Ash Chicken Stew offers food without creating a smell for zombies, and Roadrunner Chicken Jerky temporarily improves run speed.

The Big Beak cosmetic outfit, based on Nana’s Famous Chicken Mascot, will become available on Wednesday, July 29. The stable release also adds new sandbox controls for coop production, chicken stress, infection chance, hunger, thirst, stack sizes, and separate day and night density and respawn values.

Because the density and respawn settings were split into day and night options, existing custom preset codes may no longer work correctly. Players should check their codes, while the official presets have already been updated for the new setup.

Patch Notes — 7 Days to Die V3.1.0 Henpocalypse

The release covers the new chicken systems as well as localization work, Discord account tools, animal behavior, loot, server functions, and a broad set of bug fixes.

V3.1.0 Stable Release

  • Sandbox Options for enemy and animal Density and Respawn rates have been split into day and night settings. Due to this change, please check your preset codes to make sure they are still valid. Invalid codes may default some or all settings. Official Presets have also been updated with this change in mind.

The Henpocalypse V3.1.0 Update Release Notes

  • Chicken farming in the apocalypse is harder than it sounds. First you have to sneak up on the fowl. When that fails, give chase until you catch it. Then defend your raucous, fidgeting feathered friend from zombies all the way back to base. Place it in your Chicken Coop workstation for a steady supply of eggs and feathers. Rinse. Repeat. Now you’re an apocalyptic chicken farmer.
  • The Chicken Coop includes three tool slots:
    • Brooding Lamp: Speeds up production and chicken maturation
    • Chicken Run: Lets chickens hunt for bugs, cutting feed cost by 50%
    • Nesting Box: Unlocks chicken breeding and adds nesting slots
  • Once you catch a chicken and add it to your Chicken Coop, you will need to feed it by crafting ‘Rekt’s Chicken Feed’ made from Corn and Rotting Flesh.
  • In addition to capturing and carrying chickens, a new Chicken Stress event mechanic has been added for flavor. By default, when your captured chicken reaches 100% stress, you drop your chicken and a special event is triggered based on your game stage. These new events range from dropping your chicken to angered zombies to angry chickens! A sandbox option is available to tune these events to your liking.
  • Along with the new Chicken Coop Workstation comes four new Chicken-Centric Recipes including:
    • Chicken Nuggets
      • Crafted from grilled meat, feathers, corn meal, and animal fat. Not only are the nuggets filling, they temporarily remove encumbrance.
    • Chicken Wings
      • Crafted from domesticated chickens, corn meal, eggs, oil, and honey. Grandpa’s favorite wings give you temporarily boosted melee damage and infection immunity.
    • Ash Chicken Stew
      • Crafted from domesticated chickens, mushrooms, corn, coal, and water. Comes with plenty of food, but has no smell to zombies.
    • Roadrunner Chicken Jerky
      • Crafted from domesticated chickens, yucca fruit, nitrate powder, and beer. A moderate amount of food that temporarily boosts your run speed, beep beep.
  • The Big Beak cosmetic outfit, originally worn by Nana’s Famous Chicken Mascot, will be available Wednesday, July 29th. Cluck and load. Cock-a-Doodle Doom.
  • We’ve added new Sandbox Settings. Note: Existing custom presets may require updating with these new additions. New Sandbox Options:
    • Chicken Coop Time – Speed of production
    • Chicken Coop Yield – Amount produced per cycle
    • Chicken Coop Input – Required feed amount per production cycle
    • Chicken Stress Event – Controls events when chickens get stressed
    • Density and Respawn rates have been split into day and night options
    • Density and Respawn types have been split into enemy and animal
    • Infection Chance – Controls chance to get infected
    • Hunger Multiplier – Rate of food consumption
    • Thirst Multiplier – Rate of water consumption
    • Stack Size Multiplier – Max size is capped at 30,000 for all items
