A fan-made mod now lets players run the original Hades campaign inside Hades 2, swapping Zagreus for Melinoë and grafting the sequel’s combat and boon systems onto the first game’s maps and encounters. The mod, called Zagreus Journey mod on GitHub, adds a third option to the Crossroads exit menu labeled “Descend into Nightmare.” Selecting it drops Melinoë into Tartarus and sends her upward through Asphodel, Elysium, and the Temple of Styx with the original soundtrack playing in the background.
Zagreus Journey is a mod for Hades II that adds the original route Zagreus took in the first game to the sequel. Escape the Underworld as Melinoë, battle familiar foes and bosses using her unique abilities and weapons, meet Zagreus’ old friends, and reconnect with your family’s past.
Players keep Melinoë’s kit and whichever familiar and keepsake they equip, but the enemies feel like they belong in a Hades 2 run. The mod author increased enemy hit points and numbers so older foes can still threaten the more magic-heavy, dash-light playstyles common in the sequel. Boss conversations still show Zagreus in the script while Melinoë watches from behind the dialogue, producing some odd visual mismatches.
Most systems translate cleanly, though a remaining visual quirk makes the Lernaean Bone Hydra’s necks invisible in some encounters. The developer notes the mod is intended as a fun crossover rather than an official release, and updates could follow as players report issues or request tweaks. Because the mod runs inside the Hades 2 build, it uses the sequel’s boon pool and balancing, meaning runs can feel familiar to Hades 2 players while replaying the structure and enemy variety of the original. Readers interested in trying the conversion can find installation instructions on the mod’s GitHub page, but be careful, as you should back up saves and follow the author’s notes for compatibility and troubleshooting.
