XBOX Sign-In Problems Were Mitigated After a Short September 2 Outage

The service status page still showed major outages for Account & Profile and Games & Gaming after Support said sign-in and account creation had recovered.

XBOX sign-in problems affected some users on September 2, 2026, but the disruption appeared to last only about an hour. XBOX Support said engineering had mitigated errors tied to signing in and creating accounts, with both actions expected to work normally again.

What happened during the September 2 outage

The initial issue prevented some users from signing in or creating an account. That meant the problem could block access before players even reached their games, rather than affecting one specific title or mode.

At 3:35 PM BST, XBOX Support posted, “Great news, everyone! Engineering has confirmed mitigation. Signing in or creating an account should be back to normal now. We appreciate the heads-up — keep them coming if anything else pops up.”

The recovery message did not include a technical explanation for the errors. At the time of the update, however, the XBOX Status page still showed major outages under Account & Profile and Games & Gaming. The status page and the Support update were not yet reporting the same picture, so users who continued to see problems may have encountered a service that was still clearing the disruption.

The September outage was shorter than the several-hour XBOX service disruption reported on July 27, giving affected users a much faster return to account access.
