Xbox 360 games will begin coming to PC through Microsoft’s backward compatibility program between 2027 and 2028, according to a developer document reported by The Verge. The plan also covers handheld devices and the upcoming Project Helix console.
The PC rollout will happen gradually rather than bringing the entire Xbox 360 library over at once. Developers will be able to choose whether their games join the program, while retaining control over each title’s price and whether it becomes available through Game Pass.
Xbox’s Backward Compatibility Plans Continue To Grow
The Xbox 360 expansion follows Microsoft’s earlier plans for original Xbox games on PC. That catalog is scheduled to receive a full launch in October 2026, giving players access to older Xbox titles before the Xbox 360 rollout begins.
Microsoft is also working on a disc-to-digital feature for Xbox consoles. The system is expected to be revealed in August 2026 and would let players claim a digital license for a physical game they already own by inserting its disc into their console.
That license would remain tied to the disc’s current owner only while they keep the game. If the disc is traded in or given away, the next person to insert it into an Xbox console would take over the digital license. The feature is intended to provide access to the game across Xbox devices.
