World of Warcraft Player Finds Sandshift Relic Listed as Unobtainable

The item's tooltip shows it as soulbound and unique-equipped, even though the player could not equip it.

A World of Warcraft player has found a Sandshift Relic that is marked as unobtainable, creating a small mystery around how the item entered the game. The item appeared in a character’s inventory after an acquisition somewhere in Darkshore‘s Cataclysm version.

The tooltip identifies the relic as Item Level 15, soulbound, and Unique-Equipped. However, trying to equip it did not work. The character was no more than two years old, making a legacy inventory explanation less obvious.

Wowhead’s Sandshift Relic entry identifies the item as unobtainable. The acquisition was only narrowed down to Darkshore’s Cataclysm version, with no specific quest, enemy, or activity named.

That leaves the item’s route into the character’s inventory unclear. No explanation has been confirmed, but the unobtainable listing, the tooltip’s restrictions, and the failed equip attempt all point to an unusual acquisition.
