World of Warcraft: Midnight Offers a PvE Route From Delves to Mythic Raids
Fresh and returning players can begin with story content and Delves, then set goals around 2,000 Mythic+ rating, Normal raids, AOTC, or Mythic raiding.

World of Warcraft: Midnight has enough PvE variety to support a relaxed evening, a steady seasonal goal, or a demanding raid schedule. For fresh and returning players, the useful question is not which single activity to choose, but how much time, coordination, and performance they want to put into the game.
A practical way to sort Retail’s current PvE menu is to start with low-pressure activities and move upward only when the next challenge sounds appealing. There is no requirement to jump straight into Mythic+ or raiding after finishing the opening story.

Casual play has more than one lane
Players who want to unwind can follow the main storyline, complete side quests and world quests, run Heroic or Mythic 0 dungeons, build reputations, join zone events, or work through achievements. Transmog, housing, and other account-wide or horizontal progress give those activities a reason to continue even when a character is not chasing the highest item level.
Most of those options are available both inside and outside the current Midnight zones. Delves are especially useful for players who want a more focused activity, since they can provide current reputation progress and tier transmog goals. The highest difficulties can also offer a path toward completing a Mythic-tier set each week, although difficulty 8 and above may become demanding without a strong understanding of a class.
Normal raids and 2,000 rating make natural middle goals
Players looking for a more structured challenge can add higher Delve difficulties, Ritual Sites, the Heroic World Tier, and Mythic+. The latter has room for a clear seasonal target before the hardest keys arrive. Around the +10 range, Mythic+ begins to demand more from each run, while a mix of timed +7 to +9 keys can put 2,000 rating within reach for many players using pickup groups or a regular team.
That milestone is not effortless. Interrupts still matter, dangerous ground effects still need to be avoided, and class knowledge has to be good enough to cover mistakes when a run becomes messy. Normal raiding belongs in this same middle band, though it tests different skills. Learning how to position and perform in a raid can feel very different from handling a timed dungeon.
Season 2 also gives Mythic+ players a concrete collection goal, with eight dungeon teleports tied to timing each dungeon at +10 or higher. Players who earned rewards from returning dungeons in earlier seasons may already have some of those travel options unlocked.
3,000 rating and AOTC need a regular group
The next step adds 3,000 Mythic+ rating and Ahead of the Curve, usually shortened to AOTC, for Heroic raiding. Both goals ask for more than simply showing up with a workable character. Players need strong class knowledge, suitable gear, gems, enchants, potions, and a firm understanding of dungeon routes and boss mechanics.
Group choice also becomes more important here. A dedicated Mythic+ team or a guild that regularly works on AOTC can provide the consistency that pickup groups often lack. Pickup runs may carry stricter expectations around preparation and time, while an established group can turn the same pressure into a more rewarding team project.
Mythic+ rating and AOTC measure different things, so neither is a universal step above the other. Raid size and coordination can make AOTC the harder target for some players, while others will find timed keys more demanding. The right goal depends on whether a player prefers repeating short runs or preparing for coordinated encounters with a larger group.
Mythic raiding is the high end
After 3,000 rating, Mythic+ progression becomes less about unlocking another broad tier and more about personal performance. Chasing realm parses on Raider.io gives highly dedicated players a way to compare their results with the best performances for their class.
Mythic raiding raises the coordination requirement again. Encounters can introduce mechanics that do not appear on lower difficulties, and every player has to bring more preparation, damage, awareness, and consistency to each raid night. Guilds that start early may be chasing leaderboard positions, while groups that arrive later may be looking for another challenge after putting Heroic content on farm.
Lower-level activities do not disappear once a player reaches this point. Delves, housing, transmog, achievements, story content, and earlier zones remain available alongside the hardest raids. The useful part of this progression is that players can stop at the level that fits their schedule instead of treating Mythic raiding as the only meaningful destination.
