World of Tanks is quietly one of the longest-running free-to-play games out there, even if it doesn’t always get talked about much. Now, developer Wargaming is launching a fresh standalone title called World of Tanks: Heat that’s coming to PS5 and other platforms, preparing to mix tactical tank combat with hero shooter elements.
Unlike the main game, which hasn’t been on consoles, this new spin-off will offer 10v10 tank battles that feel a bit faster and more streamlined. Instead of just picking a tank, players will choose an Agent, each with distinct abilities tied to their vehicle. Some tanks will be built for long-range sniping, while others are heavier and better suited for close combat.
It’s set in an alternate post-WWII world, with tanks inspired by authentic designs but given a distinct twist. You’ll be able to customise your vehicle with cosmetics, weapon setups, and skill loadouts, tailoring your play style. The game plans to include familiar multiplayer modes like Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Conquest, so there’s a mix of deathmatch and objective-based gameplay.
Monetisation won’t affect gameplay directly; it’s free-to-play, focusing instead on cosmetics, battle passes, and time-saving options. There’s no release date yet, but you can wishlist it now. It’s going to launch simultaneously on all platforms, including PS5.
Does adding hero shooter-style abilities to tanks sound like a good idea? Can tank battles feel fast and tactical at the same time? I guess we’ll find out when World of Tanks: Heat hits. Yikes, it might just change how you think about tank games.
