The Witcher 4 Will Have Much Deeper Romance Options

The Witcher franchise has always flitted around the romantic realm, but often, it felt like a quick pit stop rather than a meaningful journey. Players of The Witcher 3 were typically faced with the classic A vs. B dilemma regarding love interests, with some fleeting flings tossed in for variety. Hold on to your swords because The Witcher 4 promises to change that narrative!

During The Game Awards earlier this month, CD Projekt Red revealed the latest entry in the franchise and confirmed Ciri as the new lead character, not Geralt! This twist has been brewing for quite some time, and fans of the story will understand why this shift makes perfect sense.

In recent discussions about The Witcher 4’s romance options, CDPR has made it clear that they want to move away from “romance just for romance’s sake.” Sebastian Kalemba, the game’s director, emphasized that this aspect will be woven into the very fabric of storytelling:

“It’s a part of the way we make games. It is a part of human nature. It’s a very normal thing. Without that I think we wouldn’t be able to tell the very full story.”

“We want to pay a lot of attention to it and make it super compelling and very meaningful. So it’s not just to make a romance for the sake of making a romance. That’s not the CDPR way.”

This commitment mirrors what players experienced in CDPR’s previous title, Cyberpunk 2077, where relationships grew over hours of gameplay and various missions; it’s all about depth! Little details mattered; even how characters communicated once they fell for you added layers to their connections.
