MADFINGER Games has released Winds of War, a significant update for Gray Zone Warfare that adds a wealth of new features and content. This update changes the game so much that it feels like a full sequel, offering fresh ways to engage with the world and other players.
The update introduces Combat Outposts, which players can capture and defend. These outposts provide distinct vendors, in-field lockers, and new strategic positions on the map.
Players can now call in mortar strikes, a mechanic that stays true to the game’s realistic style. The timing of strikes depends on distance, giving enemies a chance to react.
There’s a generous selection of new weapons, including:
- SVD
- MP7
- SIG MCX
- Mosin-Nagant Carbine
- Beretta M9A1
- Colt Combat Commander
More than 80 new ammo types and weapon parts have been added alongside these weapons.
One of the standout features is the dynamic weather system. It introduces rain, storms, fog, and wind, all based on real-world data and a weather forecast system, adding a new layer of challenge and atmosphere.
PvP Conflict Zones now appear when factions clash, marking areas with intense player-versus-player action. This creates opportunities to support allies or take advantage of chaotic battles.
The world has expanded with over 40 new tasks, 30+ real-time tasks, and more than 60 smaller locations to discover. AI patrols have increased, new interactions are available, and loot boxes are scattered throughout the map.
A new vendor named Vulture has been introduced. He trades lost gear and is only accessible at Combat Outposts, encouraging players to engage with these new areas.
Additional improvements include better matchmaking, destructible lights, body dragging, repair kits, an enhanced health system, XP upgrades, in-field task completion, squad-based tasks, gear tags for tracking, and faction armbands.
