Why Souls Games Don’t Have any Difficulty Options to Choose, From Software Explains

Well, if you believed that Soulsborne should receive a difficulty, others don’t. However, it’s not up to the gaming population to decide whether or not this feature will be added. In fact, From Software has a reasonable explanation on this subject, or more precisely, its president, Hidetaka Miyazaki.

From Software is known to develop hard to play video games, such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne, in which choosing a more accessible difficulty is somewhat impossible. In a recent interview for Gamespot, Hidetaka Miyazaki has explained why they do not want to add any different difficulty levels to their games.

“We don’t want to include a difficulty selection because we want to bring everyone to the same level of discussion and the same level of enjoyment. So we want everyone … to first face that challenge and to overcome it in some way that suits them as a player.”

“We want everyone to feel that sense of accomplishment. We want everyone to feel elated and to join that discussion on the same level. We feel if there’s different difficulties, that’s going to segment and fragment the user base. People will have different experiences based on that [differing difficulty level]. This is something we take to heart when we design games. It’s been the same way for previous titles and it’s very much the same with Sekiro.”

On a scale from 1 to 10 the answer sits somewhere at 5, which kind of confirms the meaning, but also brings a bit of nonsense to all the games developed by From Software. Usually, games that include harder difficulty by default do not have any particular and enjoyable main story, but not in this case. We find From Software’s Souls games quite enjoyable to play.

Overall, at least we know that we won’t receive any difficulties when a title is coming from From Software, nor should we expect to see this option as available.
