Petko published a full ranking of World of Warcraft Midnight specializations that assigns numerical scores to each spec to help players pick a main as the expansion begins.
How the rankings work
The guide rates every specialization across six measured categories.
- Single-target DPS
- AoE DPS
- Priority-target DPS
- Defense
- Playstyle
- Utility
After those values are set, each spec receives two summary ratings. The damage-only filter shows raw power without other considerations. The overall score combines the damage ranking with defense, playstyle, and utility to show the broader value a spec brings to groups and solo play.
The guide also points players to a separate Choose Your Main in Midnight guide that evaluates classes by playstyle, survivability, utility, and overall fun so players can match a class to their long-term preferences. Petko’s rankings are subjective and intended as a reference point rather than a definitive list. The guide will be updated regularly as Blizzard applies class tuning waves during the coming weeks. You can watch Petko’s video regarding what to main and what to alt for Midnight Season 1 below:
Blizzard plans to simplify combat and rebuild every class specialization to make key information visible in the UI, which is covered in Midnight rebuild guide. Players preparing for launch should also check exact unlock times for early access and full release at exact unlock times. For the remaining spec rankings, check Petko’s detailed guide. It will be updated regularly as class tuning waves arrive in the weeks after launch.
