Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will be added to the Versus map lineup. Get ready for “A Grudge Served Cold,” a level that promises to mix things up for players looking to take their competitive skills to new heights. This carefully crafted experience is designed with both Heroes and Pactsworn in mind.
The development team has been hard at work and shared some insights into why this particular map was chosen for adaptation. According to level designer Pål, “The layout is open to water on the left-hand side and mountain ranges to the right, making it easier to convert compared to other levels.” It’s interesting how certain maps lend themselves more readily to transformation. The design elements here seem tailored for dynamic gameplay.
Pål elaborated on what makes a great Versus level: “Definitely a mix between open spaces, verticality, chokes, interiors, and exteriors.” This blend creates tactical gameplay opportunities that keep both sides on their toes. He also mentioned that maps with built-in events that fit seamlessly into the lore are ideal. After all, who doesn’t love a good story woven into their gaming experience?
As for “A Grudge Served Cold,” it’s not just about aesthetics. The team made strategic adjustments like trimming its length and adding new interiors such as caves and safe rooms within Dwarfen structures. These changes aim to enhance pacing while providing fresh locales for players to explore. Pål noted that while the main events remain intact from Adventure mode, new capture zones have been introduced along with a payload mechanic designed to keep things moving.
During the final round, the night environment adds an atmospheric twist that should make players feel part of something larger, time passing as they engage in battle. It’s these little details that can transform gameplay from mundane to memorable.
So what does the future hold? Pål hinted at other potential maps ripe for conversion, mentioning “Garden of Morr” as having a promising layout but complicated geometry. On the flip side, he expressed excitement about “A Parting of the Waves,” which could offer even more engaging scenarios.
The new map will be available in Versus mode starting March 6 alongside the Anniversary event. Check out their official announcement here if you want more details directly from the source.
