Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 Will Have No Generative AI, Saber Interactive Says

Tim Willits made the assurance during a Gamescom interview with IGN, while Saber tests AI-generated voices, dialogue, and music in Rideshare Stimulator.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 is being developed without generative AI, according to Saber Interactive chief creative officer Tim Willits. The upcoming sequel is being kept separate from the studio’s experiments with the technology in smaller projects.

In a Gamescom interview with IGN, Willits said, “There is absolutely no generative AI in Space Marine 3.” He extended that assurance to Saber’s other licensed projects, including Hellraiser: Revival, Stuntman: Hollywood, Jurassic Park: Survival, Turok, and the studio’s John Wick project.

Saber’s position is not a rejection of generative AI across the company. Willits said the studio plans to experiment with it in Rideshare Stimulator and judge whether the results work for players. He added that anyone claiming to have already solved the technology’s wider problems is getting ahead of the industry, which may need a couple of years to work out where it fits.

Space Marine 3 is outside Saber’s AI testing

The distinction comes after Saber acknowledged that generative AI had been used in parts of Rideshare Stimulator. Former lead writer Stella Sacco said AI replaced her work on the project, while Saber CEO Matt Karch rejected that account. Karch later issued a private apology to Sacco. The dispute is covered in the Rideshare Stimulator dispute.

An updated Steam page disclosure gives Saber’s experiment a more concrete shape. Rideshare’s main Campaign mode uses AI voice generation, Free Ride includes AI-written dialogue, and the game’s radio stations feature a mix of human-made and AI-generated music. The details were documented in coverage of the updated disclosure.

Games Workshop, the owner of the Warhammer 40,000 property, has strict internal rules against generative AI in its products and advertising. Saber’s position on Space Marine 3 matches that policy, at least for the project currently in development.

Saber’s broader AI plans remain experimental

Willits described Rideshare Stimulator as a suitable place for Saber to try the technology because the team can assess the response without applying the same approach to every game in its portfolio. He did not suggest that generative AI will be used in Space Marine 3 later, and his statement presented the sequel’s development policy as settled.

For Space Marine 3, the message is straightforward. Saber’s upcoming Warhammer 40,000 game and the other licensed projects named by Willits will not use generative AI, while Rideshare Stimulator remains the studio’s testing ground for AI-generated voices, dialogue, and music.
