Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is free to play this weekend on Steam, giving players a chance to jump into the grimdark co-op action with no purchase required. The trial covers the base game and coincides with a major content drop from developer Fatshark.
Fatshark marked Darktide’s third anniversary with new content that includes a new map, a new live event, and the debut of the outrageous Hive Scum Class. The update is positioned as an entry point for returning players and newcomers who want to sample the game’s brutal, fast-paced encounters.
Players can try the base game for free and then pick up the new Hive Scum Class add-on or the Deluxe Edition if they want the extra cosmetics and content. The store pages for the base game and the new class are available on Steam for those who decide to buy after the weekend, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide on Steam, Hive Scum Class, and Hive Scum Class Deluxe Edition.
Fatshark also shared a trailer for the content:
Limited-time free weekends are common right now, as other live-service titles have launched short free trials or time-limited events this week. Players who plan to join should check system requirements on the Steam page and remember that crash reports and connection issues are best diagnosed with the latest drivers installed and any overlays disabled before jumping in.
