War Thunder is giving camouflage and decals a much cleaner setup

The Heavy Cavalry update will let players set map-aware camouflage defaults, tag decals and decorations as favorites, and customize composite SAM support vehicles.

War Thunder is adding a cleaner way to handle camouflage, plus a new Favorites menu for decals and decorations, in the Heavy Cavalry major update.

The biggest change is the automatic camouflage system. Players will be able to pick any unlocked camo as a default, and the game will still swap in a better match when the map calls for it. In the example the team gave, a forest camouflage can stay active on forest maps, while a winter camo takes over on snowy ones.

That setup came from player feedback. The team said it has been working on marketplace camouflage support, editable auto-selection lists, and ways to leave unwanted skins out of rotation entirely.

Customization is getting more room to breathe, too. The new Favorites menu will cover both decals and decorations, letting players mark the ones they want to find quickly, including 3D decorators.

Composite SAM systems are also getting more detailed customization. The main vehicle already supported decals and decorations, but the auxiliary vehicle only mirrored camouflage. That changes in the major update, which will let players paint and mark the support vehicles as well.

On the decal side, War Thunder said it has not added many permanent decals for a while, so the Heavy Cavalry update will begin filling gaps for nations that currently have few options. The first examples shown cover the French Navy, Japanese Navy, and Hungarian aircraft, with more decals also planned for the Italian Army and Navy, the Chinese Army and Air Forces, and the Indonesian Air Forces.
