Void Elf Demon Hunters Got Revealed at Gamescom 2025

Interview outlines new level cap, talents, Devourer spec, and faction concerns for Midnight.

At gamescom 2025, MarcelianOnline interviewed Lead Combat Systems Designer Jade Martin and Associate Game Director Paul Kubit about Midnight, revealing Void Elf Demon Hunters, new talent changes, and raid timing details. This matters because it affects race/class balance, player progression, and how fights will play out once Midnight launches.

Here are the highlights from the interview, and I’ll keep it short and clear for you.

  • The new level cap in Midnight is 90.
  • Players gain 10 new talent points when leveling from 81–90, split across the three existing trees.
  • Apex Talents are multi-talent nodes with four points to spend; the first and fourth ranks are the most impactful.
  • Hero talents receive one additional path in Midnight.
  • Devourer has two playstyles: mid-range caster DPS and hybrid ranged/melee, and it’s kinda flexible.
  • Demon Hunters are being added to Void Elves because it fits the story, though the team recognizes this creates faction imbalance and plans to try to address that across the Worldsoul Saga.
  • Void Elf Demon Hunters will be available on live servers in the Midnight pre-patch after a short intro quest. The pre-patch is expected in Winter 2025, per the 2025 roadmap.
  • Nightborne Demon Hunters are not planned at this time.
  • When switching to the Devourer spec, all abilities are themed after the void; there are no green/fel spells.
  • Devourer Demon Hunters get access to Void Ray, which functions like Eye Beam with a 25-yard range.
  • Raid cadence: Voidspire opens first, the Dreamrift single boss sits in the middle, and the March of Quel’Danas raid opens a few weeks after Voidspire; all three form the same tier with increasing difficulty.
  • The team wants tanking and healing to feel more approachable through encounter design in Midnight.
  • The necessity to use WeakAuras to play certain specs, like Outlaw Rogue, is seen as a combat design problem that needs to be fixed.

Adding Demon Hunters to Void Elves raises immediate questions for balance and faction population tracking. Will that break faction balance?

The interview also confirmed practical bits players will care about: the pre-patch requirement of a short intro quest for Void Elf Demon Hunters and the Winter 2025 timing from the roadmap are specific dates to watch for. The team called out raid timing so guild planners can prep for the staggered openings.

You can watch the full interview below.

Discuss what this means for your faction and class in the comments below.
