Vampire Survivors Cross-Save for PlayStation Canceled Due to Legal Issues

Vampire Survivors, the popular indie title from developer Poncle, is facing a setback that disappointed its community. Initially will introduce cross-save functionality across all platforms, the studio has revealed that due to unspecified legal complications, this feature will not roll out for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This news comes as a blow to players eagerly anticipating the ability to transfer their progress between different consoles.

The idea of cross-save was pitched in January with the promise that the upcoming patch version 1.13 would enable players to save their game on one device and continue seamlessly on another. To implement this feature, users were encouraged to create accounts on Poncle’s website—a step many fans were excited about. For instance, players could save their game on PC and pick up where they left off on Nintendo Switch.

However, just when hopes were high for inclusion in the next free update scheduled for April, Poncle announced through their official X account: “We’re sorry to say we won’t be able to bring the Vampire Survivors Cross-Save feature to PlayStation 4/5 alongside our next update.” The sudden change stems from an unexpected legal issue related to sharing user data they weren’t previously aware of. The statement continued cautiously: “The chances of Cross-Save coming to PlayStation consoles are now very slim but not impossible.” At least there’s still hope—albeit faint—that future resolutions might allow for its implementation.

Poncle’s communication didn’t shed much light on what these legal hurdles entail or why they are specific only to PlayStation systems. At the same time, other platforms like Xbox or Switch remain unaffected. They confirmed that cross-save will still work for PC, Xbox, Android, and iOS soon, with Nintendo Switch access following later. Even a tentative mention of Apple Arcade is being considered if no privacy agreements are violated in the process.

This announcement comes at an interesting time. Just last night at the BAFTA Games Awards, Vampire Survivors took home an award for Evolving Game—a nod to its continuous development and updates since launch—as Astro Bot clinched Best Game honors.
