Valheim’s Best Mods Cover Better Building, Farming, Combat, and More for 1.0

The selection includes BepInEx-based quality-of-life tools, new loot and classes, visual upgrades, and a browser-based world map.

Valheim’s full release is scheduled for September 9, 2026, giving players another reason to shape their Viking adventure before starting a new world. The best Valheim mods cover practical building tools, extra inventory space, farming options, new combat systems, visual upgrades, and a few ways to see more of the world.

Iron Gate does not officially support modding, so every installation carries some risk. Most of the options below use BepInEx, a modding framework for Unity games, but individual mods can have their own setup requirements. Back up your world and character files first. Depending on the mod, a character from a modded game might not transfer safely back to an unmodded version.

Start with a safe BepInEx setup

After installing BepInEx, its files need to be copied into the Valheim folder. Many mods can then be installed by placing their files in BepInEx’s plugin folder. That is not universal, though, so check the installation instructions for every mod before launching the game.

Players who want a gentler starting point should begin with one or two quality-of-life changes rather than installing everything at once. That makes it easier to identify a problem if the game stops loading or a save behaves unexpectedly.

Make building, storage, and survival less restrictive

Expanded Crafting Range targets one of Valheim’s more awkward building limits. The Extended Crafting Range mod lets players adjust how far they can use crafting stations and can remove the roof requirement for individual stations. That means fewer temporary platforms and less interruption when working on tall structures.

Equipment and Quick Slots separates equipped items from the regular inventory and adds dedicated quick slots. The Equipment and Quick Slots mod is useful for keeping potions, food, or other emergency items ready without filling the main inventory with gear.

Farming also gets a broader toolkit through Plant Everything. Its Plant Everything mod lets players place berry bushes, mushroom spawns, and tree saplings, opening up more options for a self-sufficient base.

Better Trader takes a different approach to preparation by adding a custom shop to a server. The Better Trader mod can be configured with basic supplies, rare items, or stronger loot, depending on how much the server wants to change progression.

For players who often lose track of time in dark biomes, Clock adds a direct answer. The Clock mod displays the in-game time, making it easier to plan a return to camp before nightfall.

Change combat and progression

Better Archery gives ranged combat more information and a few new tools. Its Better Archery mod adds craftable quivers, a crosshair that indicates the arrow’s path, and a chance to recover arrows after firing them.

For a larger change to loot, Epic Loot brings magical weapons and armor into Valheim. The Epic Loot mod assigns random properties to items found on enemies, in chests, and during boss fights. Rare, epic, and legendary gear has a low appearance rate, while a colorful beam helps identify valuable finds when one does appear.

Legends changes the combat system even more by adding 12 heroes with their own abilities. The original Legends mod included roles such as Warrior, Berserker, and Mage, with abilities including Fireball, Ice Shard, and Frost Nova. The original creator abandoned the project, but Visteus revived it through the new Legends version on GitHub.

Players who prefer Valheim’s earlier food balance can use Hearth and Home Old Food Stats. The Hearth and Home Old Food Stats mod restores the older values from before the Hearth and Home changes, when meals could provide both health and stamina rather than focusing on one or the other.

See more of the world and change the camera

The Valheim World Generator is a browser tool rather than an in-game mod. Enter an existing world seed at the Valheim World Generator website to view the map and locate bosses and items without installing another program.

First Person View adds another camera option to the game. The First Person View mod can provide a closer perspective for fishing, sailing, hunting, or simply taking in a familiar area from a different angle.

Refresh Valheim’s visuals

Two options focus on how Valheim looks. Willybach’s HD Mod combines visual changes that sharpen textures while staying close to the game’s original art direction.

Custom Textures goes further by letting players replace visible textures with their own PNG files. The Custom Textures mod can affect player models, terrain, water, and environmental assets, so it is suited to anyone who wants a heavily personalized world.

For a first modded run, the safest picks are usually the smaller quality-of-life changes. Expanded Crafting Range, Equipment and Quick Slots, Clock, and Plant Everything alter daily routines without rebuilding the entire progression system. Epic Loot and Legends are better choices when the goal is a very different combat experience, while the visual mods can wait until the core setup is stable.
