If you enjoy Unrailed 2: Back on Track, there’s a new experimental update you might want to check out. This update offers a sneak peek at upcoming changes, including how bosses appear in repeated biomes and some adjustments to wagon performance. It’s a great way to get involved early and share feedback that can help shape the final version.
Accessing this experimental build is simple: right-click on Unrailed 2 in your Steam library, select Settings, then Betas, and opt into the experimental version. Keep in mind, things aren’t set in stone yet, so expect some tweaks based on player input.
Experimental Update v-568-3a935a8 Details
- Biome and Boss Balance: The speed curves for plus-biomes, those you visit more than once, have been updated. Now, bosses will show up after 2+k stations on the k-th plus-biome, delaying their arrival the more you replay these areas. Also, each plus-biome resets its speed slightly behind where the boss started appearing, so the starting pace in these biomes will feel faster the more you play them.
- Editor Camera Control: The camera switch hotkey in the editor has moved to the [E] key to avoid conflicts with the “more info” button.
- Bug Fixes: Some wagons stopped working after about seven speed extensions, that’s now fixed. The miner wagon had issues mining correctly when moving horizontally; this has been corrected. Pressing ESC then Feedback should work again as well.
- Wagon Balance Adjustments:
- The miner wagon will be a bit slower at level 6.
- The collector wagon will speed up slightly at level 6.
- The cannon wagon will be faster on all levels.
- The turret wagon’s range beyond level 6 is reduced from 14 to 9, but it gains a speed boost at level 6.
- Speed extensions now change the speed or frequency consistently rather than duration, meaning their effect lessens with many extensions.
- The bucket cartridge’s maximum is capped at 4.
- The slot wagon’s drop count will go up to 9 beyond level 6 instead of 12.
It’s kinda interesting how these changes might affect gameplay pacing and strategy, don’t you think? I wonder if the slower miner wagon will prompt players to reconsider their approach to resource gathering. The boss timing adjustment, especially, caught my eye, it might keep repeated biomes feeling fresh for longer.
