Treyarch reveals Astra Malorum – Black Ops 7 Season 1 Zombies map shows space observatory and Oscar robot

Astra Malorum is set on a drifting observatory in Dark Aether space, brings the LGM-1 wonder weapon and the elite stalker robot Oscar, and goes live with Season 1 on December 4.

Treyarch has shared more details about Astra Malorum, the round-based Zombies map coming in Black Ops 7 Season 1, and it looks like a proper incense for classic Zombies fans who wanted something that swings harder than the launch map. The map is set on a 20th-century observatory that is physically attached to a drifting asteroid. New screenshots and footage show a star-filled skybox and a looming planet that looks very much like Saturn. Inside the observatory players will find new environmental hazards such as laser traps and rocket barrages that can be used against the undead.

There is a new Wonder Weapon called the LGM-1. It fires UFO-like discs that damage zombies and then return to the user like a frisbee. The weapon’s half-alien, half-disco presentation is obvious in the footage and will likely change how rounds feel when it appears. Perhaps the most striking new element is an Elite enemy called Oscar. The name stands for the Observation System and Carnifex Adjudicator Robot. Oscar slowly hover-patrols areas that see lots of activity and will move from patrol mode into full combat when players linger in key rooms. When Oscar switches to combat, it deploys tethered minions that make it immune to damage. Shooting those minions appears to be the only way to remove Oscars shield. It can also emit a Tesla Field that deals electrical damage, launch an Attack Drone Hologram, attach itself to a squad member, which enrages nearby zombies, and fire mechanical projectiles at range.

These new enemy behaviors suggest encounters with Oscar will be multi-stage. Players may need to split roles, focus fire on the tethered minions to break the shield, and keep distance when it uses its Tesla Field. The enrage mechanic will raise the stakes for any solo or objective work in confined rooms. The biggest open question remains how Astra Malorum ties into the main Zombies storyline and whether its secrets and easter eggs will stand alongside Treyarchs best work. There are no confirmed super easter egg details yet so players will have to wait for the map to land and be explored by the community.

Season 1 for Black Ops 7 begins on December 4. Players can read more about what else is coming with the launch of Season 1 in our season summary Season 1 arrives December 4.
