A GitHub developer has published a project called RemoveWindowsAI that aims to strip a wide set of Windows 11 AI features from machines and prevent Microsoft updates from restoring them. The repository, published by the user zoicware, includes a script that disables multiple AI-related registry entries and ships a custom Windows Update package so those components do not get patched back in by later Microsoft updates.
The tool targets features that Microsoft has added to Windows 11 over recent updates. The project page is available on GitHub at RemoveWindowsAI on GitHub.
According to the repository, the script disables the following keys and features:
- Disable Copilot
- Disable Recall
- Disable Input Insights and typing data harvesting
- Copilot in Edge
- Image Creator in Paint
- Remove AI Fabric Service
- Disable AI Actions
- Disable AI in Paint
- Disable Voice Access
- Disable AI Voice Effects
- Disable AI in Settings Search
The repository notes that some components cannot be fully disabled by the script itself, including Gaming Copilot and OneDrive AI. The project page does include instructions for toggling those features through built-in Windows settings. The project sits alongside a number of other community utilities that remove or debloat Windows components. One widely used option is the Windows Utility project, which is also hosted on GitHub and offers broader system cleanup tools at Windows Utility on GitHub.
Users should exercise caution when running scripts that modify the registry or install custom update packages. The RemoveWindowsAI repository is public, so anyone who wants to inspect what the script does can review the code directly on GitHub before running it. For users still running older Windows releases, Microsoft continues to publish security updates, and those patches can affect system behavior.
