Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will bring the 1998 stealth game to PS5 on December 3, 2026, with a new four-mission campaign alongside its original missions. The Tarnished Mirror comes from the creators of the 2023 fan expansion Thief: The Black Parade and bridges the story between The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age.
The new campaign begins with a theft that leads to imprisonment, uneasy alliances and a descent into a drowned necropolis. It also brings an expanded enemy roster and new levels. Nightdive Studios and Eidos-Montréal have brought the community-created campaign into the series’ official canon.
Like The Black Parade, the new missions use newer technology to offer larger maps than 1990s PCs could handle. The campaign also draws on the series’ horror elements. Its first trailer shows vertical environments and interiors built from familiar Thief assets.
What the PS5 remaster includes
Nightdive’s KEX Engine powers the remaster, which supports 4K resolution and 120 frames per second. Along with the base game, the package includes the 3 additional missions from Thief: Gold.
Controller features include rumble, motion and gyro controls, plus a weapon and item wheel for selecting equipment. Players can also replay completed missions through a mission selector, earn trophies and browse behind-the-scenes material in a Vault. Textures, models and animations have been updated, with small fixes to the original level design.
Editions, prices and the Trapezoid box
Digital preorders are open for PS5. The standard edition costs $29.99 / £24.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition is $34.99 / £28.99.
Physical editions include standard, steelbook and Deluxe Trapezoid versions. The PS5 Deluxe Trapezoid Edition costs $69.99 / £49.99 and comes with the game, a steelbook, a booklet, a box and a physical remaster diary.
The shaped package recalls the original PC game’s trapezoid box, but the new edition is only being offered for consoles. Nightdive and Clear River Games are releasing it for PS5 and Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, with no PC version of the package.
The pictured Switch 2 edition includes a game card and is marked as compatible with Nintendo Switch. Video Games Plus has a preorder listing for the Switch 2 Trapezoid Edition.
