The Witcher’s Multiplayer Project Has Taken Another Staffing Hit
Nine developers were laid off and nine reassigned, while the project still has no confirmed cancellation or new release window.

Another round of layoffs has hit Project Sirius, CD Projekt Red’s multiplayer project in the The Witcher universe, giving the game another staffing setback. Nine developers were laid off on August 12, 2026, while another nine were reassigned to different projects within the company.
There is also no confirmed cancellation or delay tied to the layoffs. Beyond the staffing changes, the project’s production status and next milestone remain unclear.
Project Sirius was first revealed in 2022 and rebooted in 2023, a reset that resulted in 29 layoffs. Developed by The Molasses Flood, the game has been described as combining a single-player experience with cooperative multiplayer.
Before the latest cuts, Project Sirius had reportedly been making relatively good progress after adjustments made during spring 2026. The studio also recently brought Kwan Perng, a writer known for work on Destiny 2, onto the project as lead writer. An earlier hiring update showed the team growing from 48 to 51 developers, though its makeup has since shifted again.
No further details about changes to the game’s scope, schedule, or launch plans have been confirmed alongside the staffing news. Any claims about a cancellation or a new release timeline should be treated as unverified until more information is shared.
