The Next Kratos God of War Game Will Continue Laufey’s Story

Santa Monica Studio said the Kratos-led game will follow the Laufey-focused title, which is scheduled for early 2027 and features a Kratos cameo.

The next Kratos-led God of War game will take place after the upcoming Laufey-focused entry, with both stories directly connected. Cory Barlog, Santa Monica Studio’s creative head, confirmed the relationship during a San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel.

IGN reported on the panel, where Barlog explained that the next Kratos story will follow God of War Laufey. The wording points to a connected narrative rather than two separate projects that only share the same universe.

Laufey’s game arrives first

God of War Laufey is scheduled for release in early 2027. A recent Sony State of Play presentation showed gameplay from the title, including a cameo from Kratos.

That cameo now carries extra weight, since the game will lead directly into the next main story centered on Kratos. Santa Monica Studio has not shared a release date or further details for the Kratos-led project.

The God of War TV series is also changing its Kratos

The franchise is also expanding into television through an Amazon Prime Video series based on the 2018 God of War. Ryan Hurst was recast as Kratos after suffering a torn bicep during production. The injury would have kept him from returning to filming until early 2027, and a replacement has not been announced.

The series is expected to follow the story of the 2018 game, though the new actor taking over the role remains unknown.
